Taylor Swift donates $100K to support LGBTQ advocacy in Tennessee

Role model and social activist Taylor Swift donated a large amount of money to the Tennessee Equality Project – an organization that works in legislative advocacy.

Her donation is in response to the so-called “slate of hate” in her adopted state of Tennessee. It’s comprised of 12 separate bills that, if passed, would limit the rights of LGBTQ citizens, according to NBC News. Among them is the Tennessee Natural Marriage Act, which would ban marriage equality, and a bill that would protect adoption agencies who turn away gay parents.

The Tennessee Equality Project recently helped get more than 100 religious leaders in the state to support a petition against the bills, which they said in a statement “promote discrimination rather than justice,” according to NBC.
