Washington state looks forward to influx of money from same-sex weddings

Marriage equality will help Clark County’s wedding industry because it’s located in the southwestern part of Washington, across the Columbia River from Portland, Oregon. Experts believe – in addition to Washington couples – Clark County businesses may see an influx of Oregon and other out-of-state couples who are not legally allowed to tie the knot in their home states.

Voters upheld the Washington marriage law, passed by the state Legislature earlier in the year. The law takes effect Dec. 6. A three-day mandatory waiting period means the first same-sex marriages won’t happen until Dec. 9.
