Texas bill would allow same-sex parents on birth certificates

Same-sex adoptions might become a reality in Texas. A proposed House Bill would allow same-sex couples to be recognized as parents on birth certificates. The way the law is currently written makes obtaining passports, social security numbers, and enrollment in school difficult for some of our families.

“The current law as it’s written is forcing thousands of Texas children not to be able to get a supplemental birth certificate showing who their legal adoptive parents are,” said Chuck Smith with Equality Texas.

At least 18 states allow same sex adoptions.
