NYC Mayor Bloomberg fighting for marriage equality in NY Senate

Mayor Bloomberg will attempt to change opinion and/or votes of Senate Republicans to support marriage equality. “If there’s a chance to pass a bill, I will do it,” Bloomberg said. “I’ll go lobby.” In addition, Gov. Cuomo has renewed efforts to change the definition of marriage to include everyone. Bloomberg may have the power to change a few Republican minds: He’s been the Senate GOP’s largest financial benefactor. A plan includes Cuomo attempting to get one GOPer to speak in favor of marriage equality to help break the logjam – and build momentum. Senate Democratic Conference Leader John Sampson and Sen. Thomas Duane, the Senate’s only openly gay senator, are lobbying three Democrats who voted against equality in ’09 – but are considered “in play” this time around.
