QUESTION: “A friend told me that fertility problems can be covered by some insurance companies. Is this true? Do you know which insurance companies assist lesbians who want to get pregnant?”

DR. DOYLE: It is definitely true that many insurance companies do cover the full range of treatments including insemination and even IVF. The best way to find out is to either review your policy coverage with someone in Human Resources at your workplace, or to ask the fertility clinic to check for you. Many clinics, including mine, are happy to offer that service even before you come in for your first consultation.
