SUNY New Paltz: ‘It Gets Better’

Students and staff at SUNY New Paltz joined the national chorus to counteract the effects of bullying with “It Gets Better“. The original project, which was launched nationally by syndicated columnist Dan Savage, features celebrities speaking directly to the camera and assuring viewers that as tough as things may sometimes get, “it gets better.” When Mike Patterson, student activities director at SUNY, discovered that Ithaca College had created its own version of the video, he proposed SUNY New Paltz follow suit. The five-minute video offers a variety of comments ranging from the upbeat repetition of the project’s name, to contact information for psychological services as well as several poignant stories from staffers recounting their families’ experiences with the results of bullying.
