A growing number of lesbian couples becoming parents in Wales

According to reports, several hundred babies have been born to lesbians who have undergone treatment at the London Women’s Clinic, which has clinics in Swansea and Cardiff.

Dr Kamal Ahuja, the London Women’s Clinic’s scientific and managing director was a pioneer in admitting lesbians for donor insemination in 2000 in the face of public outcry.

The clinic is also now receiving its first inquiries from gay men about using donor eggs to create a family. Dr. Ahuja believes the surge is a result of changes in legislation. Women can now appear as a second parent on the birth certificate. Adoption is no longer necessary.
