McCain: No gay marriage and no adoption rights

Tanene Allison [pictured] offers an overview for those who are still undecided or [gasp] supporting John McCain for president.

Her latest blog entry at Huffington Post points out that McCain is not our friend. Tanene’s compiled everything homophobic about John McCain and compares the list to all things progressive about Barack Obama. For example:

  • McCain believes that the family represents the foundation of Western Civilization and civil society and John McCain believes the institution of marriage is a union between one man and one woman. It is only this definition that sufficiently recognizes the vital and unique role played by mothers and fathers in the raising of children, and the role of the family in shaping, stabilizing, and strengthening communities and our nation.
  • He opposes Civil Unions. He believes same-sex couples should create legal structures of protection via private attorneys rather than achieve equal marriage rights.
  • McCain also supports PROP 8 – on the ballot in California. Before this, he supported the only anti-LGBT Rights constitutional amendment ballot initiative in his home state of Arizona.
  • And – in a recent interview – McCain said that, as President, he would sign into law a Federal Amendment defining marriage as between one man and one woman, although he had previously voted against such an amendment.
  • Most worrisome is the fact that McCain does not believe that LGBT couples should be allowed to adopt.

In her post, Tanene directs us to a video which shows McCain explaining his stance on LGBT adoption. We’ve included it below.

I don’t think this is a McCain only thing. It would just be nice to have someone who actually answered a question instead of avoiding it. He was asked several times whether or not he supported gay adoption. The only thing he talked about was “traditional 2-parent families.”

That’s like saying, “What do you think of Apples?” And the response comes back “I like oranges.”

These are things to watch for, in my opinion, of course. Are they answering the questions put to them (even simple yes/no questions like this one) or are they just trying to show off their polished turds?

The only thing he believes in is bigotry.

All right, who ordered the McWaffle? This fucking guy can’t even give a straight answer for a gay question. “Are you for gay adoption?” “I am for 2-parent families,” “But are you for gay adoption?” “I support family values,” This McCain (like so many other Republicans) seems to be convinced that his opinion is the Be All and End All of the debate on gay marriage and adoption. Maybe in a dictatorship but not in America.
WE the People are the voices that count. The president and the Congress are supposed to support us, protect us and empower us – not themselves. Do you care what McCain thinks? I don’t! Fair is fair, and it doesn’t matter how he feels about it.
Remember, “With Freedom and Justice for All,”? Don’t forget it.

    Fuckin douche.
And he won’t admit it either. He answers every question circularly.
    Like I said: douche.
