Latino Catholic Cardinal insults Ricky Martin over twins

Contact Music reports that a Catholic cardinal of Honduras, Oscar Andres Rodriguez has maligned Ricky Martin – who fathered twins last week – saying:

“What Martin did diminishes the dignity of a human being. You can’t just buy or rent life. It’s even worse when someone famous and in the public eye is doing it.”

Mexican talk show host Esteban Arce has also revealed his disapproval of Ricky’s new role as father:

“I don’t think it’s right to deny children of maternal figures, just because you have a big ego.”

The surrogate mother is rumored to be Martin’s cousin.

Ricky Martin fathers twins via gestational surrogacy

Singer Ricky Martin has become the father of twin boys with the help of a surrogate mother. His spokesperson said he’ll take time away from his career to raise them.

The boys were delivered via gestational surrogacy, but no further details were released.

“Ricky is elated to begin this new chapter in his life as a parent and will be spending the remainder of the year out of the public spotlight in order to spend time with his children,” said the statement issued by his New York-based spokesperson.

A native of Puerto Rico, Martin, 36, first gained fame as a singer in boy band Menudo. His 1999 album “Ricky Martin” and its song “Livin’ la Vida Loca” made him a major pop star. His other hits include “She Bangs.”

Last year, Martin expressed an interest in adopting children.
