Fatherhood Dreams: A film by Julia Ivanova

Steve, Scott, Drew, and Randy are fathers who happen to be gay. They fulfilled their desire to be parents through adoption, surrogacy and co-parenting. But being a gay parent requires a unique set of tools to deal with the legal and emotional issues involved.

The documentary’s website describes its premise: “Fatherhood Dreams invites people into the day-to-day lives of gay dads including the legal aspects of surrogacy, the complexity of open adoption, and the human rights battles concerning the official recognition of LGBT and multi-parent families.”

Steve is co-parenting with lesbian moms – raising two children on an isolated island. Scott is expecting twins with a surrogate mother. And the film profiles the birth family that chose Drew and Randy to be parents to their biological son. In addition, a confident 4-year old and teenager explain what it’s like to have gay parents.
