New York votes against marriage equality

Despite Governor Paterson’s support - the New York State Senate denied marriage equality with a vote of 24 to 38.

From Family Equality Council Blog:

Statement of Jennifer Chrisler, Executive Director, Family Equality Council:

Loss in Maine will not slow the fight for marriage equality

Maine voted 53 to 47 to reject gay marriage. The closely watched — and not very close — vote extended the winning streak of gay-marriage opponents nationwide, who have now prevailed in more than 30 straight state elections over whether to allow marriage equality.

Still, the issue will not go away.

TIME magazine reports:

The Washington Post reports:

President Obama made clear that he favors the repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act [DOMA], and intends to ask Congress to repeal the 13-year-old law that denies benefits to domestic partners of federal employees and allows states to reject same-sex marriages performed in other states.

Some parents frustrated over White House's handling of Egg Roll tickets

At least one news source is reporting that "frustrated parents are learning that piles of tickets are being handed out to 'special groups,' including gay and lesbian families."

Since 2006, the Family Equality Council has encouraged gay and lesbian families to wait in line for tickets to the event. Many gay parents have camped out and scored coveted tickets to the White House Easter Egg Roll. It's become an annual event for many FEC members.
