Lesbian mom saved from deportation by private bill introduced by California Senator Dianne Feinstein

Shirley Tan, who had received a temporary reprieve and was scheduled to be deported and separated from her partner of 23 years, Jay Mercado, and their two children on April 22, was saved at the last minute by a private bill introduced by Senator Dianne Feinstein [pictured], according to a message sent out by the family's rep. Concerned lawmakers call for extended support for foster youth entering adulthood. Services should continue until 21-years-old.

As teens age-out of the foster care system, protracted services for older kids has been requested by important leaders like U.S. Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif.
