Religious leaders and other supporters of marriage equality presented petitions to two McHenry County lawmakers in support of same-sex marriage.
Second Lady Jill Biden spoke out for supportive parenting and against school bullying as the keynote speaker at the biannual national convention of Parents, Families and Friends of Gays and Lesbians. She pointed to progress for gay rights under the Obama administration, including the signing of a hate crimes prevention act and the repeal of the military’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy.
Amy Mesirow and her husband got involved with the struggles of gay youth when their son came out to them three years ago. They assured him of their love immediately, but found they needed help for themselves. Mesirow is now a board member of PFLAG (Parents, Families & Friends of Lesbians and Gays), as well as at Cape & Islands Gay & Straight Alliance, which runs a safe house for youths 22 and under in Hyannis.
PFLAG [Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays] chapters in Tallahassee and Panama City, Florida, are rallying for equality in two separate events - the Rally in Tally on Monday, March 16th at the Old State Capitol in Tallahassee, and the Our Time Has Come rally at the Pier Park Amphitheater in Panama City Beach on Saturday, May 16th.
