Gov. Mitt Romney

Romney rejects anti-marriage equality pledge

Former Mass. Gov. Mitt Romney's campaign will not sign a conservative Iowa Christian group's far-reaching pledge opposing marriage equality, making him the first GOP presidential candidate to reject it. Two of Romney's rivals, Minn. Rep. Michele Bachmann and former Penn. Sen. Rick Santorum, have signed The Family Leader's 14-point pledge, which calls to denounce marriage equality, pornography, same-sex military accommodations and forms of Islamic law.

5 years later, views shift subtly on gay marriage

When the Supreme Judicial Court handed down its landmark decision five years ago tomorrow allowing same-sex couples to wed in Massachusetts, opponents warned that traditional marriage would be endangered, while supporters envisioned an equality movement that would spread across the nation.

Over 11,000 same-sex marriages later, neither has happened.

Mom vs. Romney

A Boston mom gives it to Romney:

"I am a gay woman and I have children. Your comment that you just made, it sort of invalidates my family," said Cynthia Fish, a mother of a 6- and 8-year-old. "... I wish you could explain to me more, why if we are sending our troops over to fight for liberty and justice for all throughout this country, why not for me? Why not for my family?"
