Family Week is the largest national gathering of GLBT families and their friends in the US, and registration has started! The Student Non-Discrimination Act has been introduced by Senator Al Franken and 22 co-sponsors. The SNDA would prohibit discrimination in schools on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity/expression. It's noted as an important step toward ensuring that all students are valued and respected and can learn in an environment free from harassment and discrimination.
In an episode of ABC's 'What Would You Do?', a waiter harasses gay parents while hidden cameras catch reactions of people in a restaurant. For the most part, patrons noticed the homophobic remarks but no one came to the aid of the gay families. Several scenes were shot in which people didn't get involved. The gay families were left to fend for themselves.
Green Dads reports that COLAGE registration has opened for Family Week 2009.
COLAGE offers programming for youth every year at Family Week in Provincetown.

On Mother’s Day, Jay Bakker [pictured], son of Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker, brought a group of LGBT families to worship at Lakewood Church, in Texas - the largest mega-church in the U.S. After the service, Bakker met privately with Lakewood’s pastor, Joel Osteen, to talk about faith, family, and LGBT people.
After the meeting, Bakker released the following statement:
We'll be in Cape Cod July 26 thru August 2 celebrating new and old friendships with families like yours. Each summer, Provincetown is transformed into a huge playground for kids with GLBT parents. And Family Equality Council is once again hosting a large part of this massive event. COLAGE will again offer its workshops and activities too.
