A retired teacher who gave birth at 57 through IVF now admits that she was too old to have a child. Susan Tollefsen sparked an ethical storm after becoming Britain’s oldest first-time mother when she had daughter Freya using sperm from her partner Nick Mayer, who is 11 years her junior, and a donor egg.
Now aged 61 and separated from Mr Mayer, she believes there should be an age limit of 50 for IVF treatment for women in the UK. The pensioner said she had split from Mr Mayer in part because of the ‘shock’ of having a child so late in life.

Embryo Donation - On my radio show today with Dr. Craig Sweet, I will be interviewing an embryo donor, who goes by the name "Tori." She will be providing a unique perspective on someone who decided, along with her husband, to donate her remaining embryos to an infertile couple. While I counsel clients on the range of options, such as continued cryopreservation, destruction via thawing, donating to research or donating to others, "Tori" decided that she wanted to "pay it forward" to other infertile couples.

Surrogacy - Another case out of India involving a woman who travelled to India for surrogacy and embryo donation. The outcome of the case is unclear; however, the boys could ultimately end up being adopted to others.

Eggs: Interesting update out of Spain -

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - Frozen eggs can be just as effective as fresh eggs for women trying to become pregnant through egg donation, new research suggests.

Women who were implanted with frozen eggs at a Spanish infertility clinic got pregnant at virtually the same rate as women implanted with fresh eggs, the researchers report in the journal Human Reproduction.

This story from the United Kingdom is another reason why you need to do your research and make sure you understand the differences in the laws regarding infertility treatment before you decide to undergo treatment abroad.
