Researchers found a growing number of parents appeared to have ditched traditional names in favour of the more bizarre monikers such as Shy, Unity and Bean.
The survey, for a parenting group, found that more than one in three parents now claimed their child had an unusual name. Experts said many new parents were being influenced by celebrities who had given their children more unusual names.
But they warned parents to “think very carefully” before embarking on unusual names because it could affect their child’s psychology.
There is one thing in common between pets and toddlers in your household – both of them crave your love and attention, and both of them require your utmost care. If a pet has been staying in the household much before an toddler has come to stay there, the pet may feel threatened and even jealous of the attention given to the new toddler. It may tend to attack the toddler when unattended.
Sure, you can wade through 60,000 names and look for the one that catches your fancy. Another approach is to sit down with a glass of wine ( grape juice for mom-to-be ) and make the following questions into a game. Brainstorm using some or all of these questions and see what kind of ideas they spark. Remember, there is no rule that says a baby can only have one name. If you work together, you might find a few that you both like and respond to at the same time.
Here is a list of some of the important do's and dont's related to selecting the right baby name. One example would be - Don't name your baby with terms that have slang meanings related to parts of the human anatomy.
Dont's
There are a number of reasons why parents select the baby names they do. It could be because they admire someone who has the same name. It could also be because a name is popular at a given time. On the other hand, unusual baby names can be chosen precisely because they have novelty value. Sometimes, parents may even pick a baby name simply because they like its 'sound'.
You may be asking yourself, “Why cover that here? I have five books on baby names," but those books don’t address baby naming do’s and don’ts for gay parents. Names have a way of coming back to haunt us. How many of us wish our parents had just taken the time to write our initials-to-be down on paper and looked at them before bequeathing them to us? How many of us would be less traumatized today had our parents shut the baby name book and spent five minutes anticipating all the cruel innovations a creatively malicious mind could think up based on the name they had chosen.
Gay parents must be particularly careful about the names we give our children. Our children already have enough baggage to inspire the malicious minds of their schools’ lowest common denominators. There’s no excuse for adding fuel to the fire. So let’s review the rules for gay fathers and mothers to be.
