Sen. Al Franken

Minnesota Senator Al Franken is fighting to pass the Student Non-Discrimination Act, which would prohibit discrimination against any public school student on the basis of actual or perceived sexual orientation or gender identity. He says, "This critical legislation would forbid schools from discriminating against or ignoring the harassment of students based on actual or perceived sexual orientation or gender identity.

The Student Non-Discrimination Act has been introduced by Senator Al Franken and 22 co-sponsors. The SNDA would prohibit discrimination in schools on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity/expression. It's noted as an important step toward ensuring that all students are valued and respected and can learn in an environment free from harassment and discrimination.
