Surrogacy Issues - Well, we have had a quiet week - thank goodness! Especially after all the negative press last month regarding surrogacy. We do have a few issues to ponder, so here it is:
California - Santa Cruz court to hear custody hearing on former lesbian partners' dispute over twins. The sticking point in this case is that the sperm donor is now acting as the father, living with the biological, lesbian partner, and they are now a couple themselves. Currently, the judge has granted temporary visitation to the other partner until the hearing takes place.
Good morning....wanted to update everyone on the televised proceeding for Prop 8 here as follows: http://www.equalrightsfoundation.org/live-updates/
In addition, a surprising admission by a Utah lawmaker. She is carrying a child for a gay couple as a traditional surrogate.
"Rep. Christine Johnson will serve an additional role when the Utah Legislature convenes this month. The lesbian lawmaker announced she's a surrogate mother, carrying a baby for two gay men.
I know that there are many organizations out there giving patient education in the area of family building for singles and couples, including the LGBT community, surrogacy, IVF, egg donation and sperm donation, but I have to toot my horn for the American Fertility Association. And, I want you to help this organization by donating to our cause (I say our cause, as I must provide full disclosure that I am a board member) BUT by not donating any of your own money. Yes, you can help by donating Capital One's money - just sign up for a card, and they do the rest.
We brought you the link to the Little Mrs. blogging about it; now, here is what Melissa Etheridge has directly written about Rick Warren as posted at The Huffington Post.

On Friday we had a snow day. Little Man was home for the entire day. He was excited about getting to sleep in . . . for about 5 minutes. Then he was all reared up and ready for the day. And oh what a day.
I loved my heterosexual parents and if anybody tried to take away their parental rights, their right to adopt, their children's health insurance . . . they would have been damn mad, hateful, immature and every other emotion under the sun.
These are our families - our children.
I used to be one of the play nice, act mature, fit in good gays - but I'm sick of it.
Last week, I issued an LGBT Community Call to Action in efforts to help strike down Proposition in 8 in California, which would eliminate the right of same-sex couples to marry in the state if passed on November 4th, 2008.
