More U.S. women are having twins these days. The reason? Older moms and fertility treatments. One in every 30 babies born in the U.S. is a twin — an astounding increase over the last three decades, according to a government report issued Wednesday. In 1980, only 1 in every 53 babies was a twin.
“When people say it seems like you see more twins nowadays, they’re right,” said Joyce Martin, an epidemiologist who co-authored the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report.
I was recently the proud surrogate of two wonderful intended parents who happen to be gay. For me it wasn’t a decision of whether I should carry for a gay couple or not. They are both marvelously caring and compassionate people, and I know they will be great fathers to their twins.

I was recently the proud surrogate of two wonderful intended parents who happen to be gay. For me it wasn’t a decision of whether I should carry for a gay couple or not. They are both marvelously caring and compassionate people, and I know they will be great fathers to their twins.
Father of twins, Ricky Martin has officially come out of the closet as a gay man, posting the following message on his website today:
I tweeted about this the other day but since Octomom issues like this don't go away and need to be revisited. First, it should be clarified that this couple's children were not conceived using in vitro fertilization but rather ovulation induction where the woman is stimulated using either Clomid or injectable medications and either has intercourse with her husband or her physician performs an IUI (intrauterine insemination).
The moment of truth finally came yesterday.. It had been two weeks since my surrogate mom got the positive result from her pregnancy blood test. Her hCG level was more than triple the average, so we were very concerned about the possibility of having triplets. Since then, I'd had the mixed emotions of joy and fear, thinking of the complications associated with the multiple pregnancies (selective reductions and all that). Though I'd waited for this positive pregnancy result for 4 years, I couldn't celebrate 100% because of this.
