Today New Warren Video – Melissa Etheridge Should Give Up on This Guy

December 23, 2008 By TwoLesbosGoinAtIt

After the jump, Warren’s new video. We’ve read what Mrs. and Mrs. Melissa Etheridge have said in their attempt to defend Rick Warren. We truly “get” their point of view. In fact, one of us spent several years inviting anti-gay ministers to lunch, over to the house for dinner, and even doing joint public appearances to talk about marriage equality.

We drew a line in the sand when it came to Little Man. That’s when it all ended. For all of the meetings, hugs, smiles and private support . . . we got NOTHING from these “good Christians” when it came time to legally protect our son’s relationship to his parents.

Watch the newest video from Rick Warren, Saddleback Pastor and Obama inaugural invocation selectee. In this video recorded and posted today, December 23, Warren accuses us gays of having “Christ-ophobia”–claiming that all gays are “afraid of any Christian.”

We’re not afraid of you – we’re just sick of some of you. The term “you” is used to describe self-proclaimed Christians who spend their time raising public opinion and money to hurt my family. Go away.

Melissa Etheridge Meets Rick Warren – Hollywood Farm Girl

December 22, 2008 By TwoLesbosGoinAtIt

Melissa Etheridge Meets Rick Warren – Hollywood Farm Girl

The spouse of Melissa Etheridge gives us another side of the Rick Warren issue. Apparently Melissa Etheridge met Warren and the lovely spouse of Melissa gives us a few thoughts to ponder.

Here is part of what Tammy Lynn says on her blog “hollywood farm girl”:

“rick is not a televangelist. rick is not falwell. rick spoke of some “stupid” things he’s said (his word, not mine), some missquotes that were given, and lots of ammunition from the media. all excellent points. (we’re all war-minded right now, you know. it’s easy for the media to distract us by throwing us into our own verbal wars here at home.) ) what to do, what to do…. the rest of the public is given an animation of rick warren… and then my wife meets the man behind the projections, the quotes, the “OTHER SIDE”. and he is warm, caring, effusive, and LOVES gays. since he nearly swallowed honey when he hugged her, i tend to believe him. he wants our gay marriages to be just as respected and embraced as the straight marriages. he just wants to wear his yamaka, and me wear my hat.”

“Melissa Etheridge should give up on this guy…”

Two Lezbos Going At It offers timely advice and one side of the Rick Warren inauguration situation.

In a Proud Parenting blog post, one lesbo and her loving spouse invite you to watch Warren’s new video. The two moms write:

“We’ve read what Mrs. and Mrs. Melissa Etheridge have said in their attempt to defend Rick Warren. We truly get their point of view. Politics, Elections, and The Children

March 7, 2008 By KristenB

As the proud daughter of a feminist lesbian, I’ve had my share of marches and rally’s. I’ve also had my political disagreements with my Mom and her partner. I do respect their opinions and appreciate the pride it instilled me as a girl growing up.

Here’s the thing. As a parent, you want your children to understand what’s politically important. So, you educate them on the plight of the GLBT community. You openly discuss the ways the government is expanding their minds and also descriminating against you. At the same time, your children are forming their own opinions and will have their own issues that they will stand for.

I know there are many people in the GLBT community who will be voting for Hillary Clinton because she’s a woman. There is more to a candidate than female and male. When you are educating your children, remember that and specify why a female President would be a good thing. What does she stand for that is so good. What changes do you see happening if Hillary becomes President.

Same thing when sharing with your kids that you are voting for someone because they believe in gay rights or GLBT family values. Share what it MEANS.

Also, allow your kids to make their own decisions when it comes to politics. You have a reason to stand for your rights. Your children may not feel the same need to fight like you do. Honor that and allow them to sit out, if they choose to. Educate them on what’s important to you and then allow them to make their own choices. Support them in their individuality!

Create a great day!

Political Talking Points

February 16, 2007 By Community Editor

Taking part in meaningful conversations with conservatives about same-sex parenting can be frustrating. Our friends at COLAGE (Children of Lesbians and Gays Everywhere) provide the following information as a tool for debate:

  • Same-sex couples raising chidren live in 96% of all counties nationwide in the United States. (2000 U.S. Census analyses by the Urban Institute and Human Rights Campaign)
  • Daughters of lesbians have higher self-esteem than daughters of straight women. Sons are more caring and less aggressive. (Hoeffer, 1981)
  • Most “problems” that kids of LGBT parents face actually stem from the challenges of dealing with divorce and the homophobia in society rather then the sexual orientation or gender identity of their parents.
  • As of 1990, 6 million to 14 million children in the United States were living with a gay or lesbian parent. (National Adoption Information Clearinghouse, a service of the U.S. Administration for Children and Families.)
  • There is absolutely no evidence that children are psychologically or physically harmed in any way by having LGBT parents. There is, however, much evidence that shows that they are not.
  • People with LGBT parents have the same incidence of homosexuality as the general population, about 10%. No research has ever shown that LGBT parents have any affect on the sexuality of their children. (Patterson, Charlotte J. 1992)
  • Research claims that children with LGBT parents are exposed to more people of the opposite sex than many kids of straight parents. (Rofes, E.E., 1983, Herdt, 1989)
  • Studies have shown that people with LGBT parents are more open-minded about a wide variety of things than people with straight parents. (Harris and Turner, 1985/86)
  • On measures of psychosocial well-being, school functioning, and romantic relationships and behaviors, teens with same-sex parents are as well adjusted as their peers with opposite-sex parents. A more important predictor of teens’ psychological and social adjustment is the quality of the relationships they have with their parents. (National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health, 2004)
  • The highest percentages of same-sex couples raising children live in the South. (2000 U.S. Census analyses by the Urban Institute and Human Rights Campaign)
  • 15 bills were introduced in 7 states during the 2005 legislative session that were written to ban homosexuals from adopting or serving as foster parents. Multiple states already have bans.
  • 5 states introduced constitutional amendments in 2006 written to ban LGB adoptions.
  • 7 additional states will likely introduce bills to accomplish the same purpose.
