Army Chief Warrant Officer Charlie Morgan (47) served her country for the past 17 years, and the repeal of DADT happened just in time for her as she battles terminal breast cancer. DADT left her afraid that when she was gone, her wife and young daughter would not be recognized by the army. Also, for the first time, she will be able to celebrate Gay Pride Month openly alongside her peers. Morgan will join the Pentagon on June 26, when the military will pay homage the LGBT community of service members.
My 8 year-old was asked at school what his parents do. As it was related to me, he said something close to, “Well, my dad flies an Apache in the Army. It’s an attack helicopter and is the most technologically advanced flying machine in the world. My mom delivers mail for the Post Office. And Aunt Becca, well she drives around in our van and goes through people’s trash and dumpsters and stuff. She gets out all the good stuff and sells it.” I’ve been outed as a junker.
