'Quads with 2 Moms' explores story of lesbian moms each pregnant with twins

Discovery Health is promoting a special week of programming called Baby Week. Beginning Sunday, June 8 - at 8PM E/P - Discovery will offer "unbelievable stories" about family building and parenting.

Discovery Health explains Quads with 2 Moms, which airs June 9, at 8PM E/P: "Karen Wesolowski, 42, and Martha Padgett, 38, met in August 2000, while working in health care at a California hospital. After a whirlwind romance spent traveling the world, Martha moved into Karen's home in Riverside, Calif., and they began their lives together as a lesbian couple.

"When Karen and Martha first met, Martha had a 3-year-old daughter, Julia, from a previous marriage. Karen soon became Julia's doting stepmother. As time went on, however, the two women desperately wanted children of their own. Thus began the process of trying to get pregnant through in-vitro fertilization.

"After three unsuccessful years of procedures using Karen's eggs and an anonymous sperm donor, the two women were almost ready to give up. Mentally and financially exhausted, Martha suggested using Martha's eggs, as she was younger than Karen. They also decided to up the odds by implanting two embryos into both moms. Miraculously, their plan worked — better than expected. Each mom got pregnant … with two babies!"

Baby Week shows include Quads with 2 Moms, June 9; Deliver Me, June 10; World's Smallest Mom, June 11; Amazing Births, June 12; Mystery Diagnosis, June 13.

Hello,

Just wanted to let you know that this program aired in Baby Week 2008. If you'd like to watch it, "Quads with 2 Moms" will re-air on Discovery Health on Tuesday, May 19 at 8 PM ET/PT & 11 PM ET/PT, as well as on Saturday, May 23 at 10 AM ET/PT.

Thanks!

Cause for celebration?!?!

Why do we/you celebrate "anonymous sperm donors"? What on earth is there to celebrate from the offspring's perspective? Yes, two moms are great! BUT what about the dad or rather the man who is the genetic father of these children who chose to intentionally give his sperm away to create a child/many children - with strangers - who he wanted NOTHING to do with. Why oh why do we/you celebrate this?!?!?

Yep, we celebrate!

We celebrate for the offspring because we know that she/he will grow-up in a loving environment - and welcomed unconditionally. We celebrate because this dedicated couple want to be parents and they made it happen. What about the genetic father? If he thinks about it at all, he may feel good about contributing to this blossoming gayby boom phenomenon - making people's wishes come true.

"making people's wishes come

"making people's wishes come true" That's wonderful for the desiring adults but not wonderful for the offspring if they need/want to have a meaningful relationship with their genetic father-mother-extended genetic family, half siblings and ancestry. I could go on, but I'll leave it at that.

This is a great family, but

This is a great family, but I wish there would be more focus these days on adoption. There are just so many children who need to be adopted globally. And 2 moms or 2 dads is great; people need to be loved and wanted.

this is a lovely story, off

this is a lovely story, off two lucky women, i agree more people should adopt, the problem i have is that adoption has been made very difficult, my partner is disabled now,and that would make it very difficult for us to adopt, that's why we choose not to adopt, more people should adopt if they can though

Kudos!!

I think that these loving women should be praised for the commitment to each other...then to their family in which they so obviously wanted! I would love to hear an update on the children and how the family is...
