The decision on whether to overturn Proposition 8 is due to be handed down from the California Supreme Court by June 3rd.
Decisions are announced on Mondays and Thursdays, and if it will be handed down on a Monday, the court will give notice the previous Friday at 10:00 AM. If it will be handed down on a Thursday, the court will give notice the previous Wednesday at 10:00 AM.
Many pro-marriage equality activists are planning to Meet in the Middle of the state in the city of Fresno the Saturday after the decision is handed down to either celebrate or protest the decision together. In the meantime, Equality California has launched a project to identify and organize the same-sex married couples from across the state.
Equality California Director Marc Solomon says:
The thousands of married same-sex couples living in California have a special—and unprecedented—role to play in the movement forward. Never before has there been a group like this. We just have to find them.
If anyone you know is one of the 18,000 California same-sex couples married in 2008 before Prop 8 was passed, have them visit eqca.org/couples to register.
