Help! MI Adoption

Adoption

Help! My partner has been offered a job in MI. Before she accepts, we want to make sure we can find an adoption agency to update our homestudy. We are currently waiting for placement on #2, but will need to update our homestudy. I have been searching the internet, but haven't yet found an agency in MI that works with gay families. I am not sure that you will find an adoption agency in MI to do it. MI does not allow gay couple adoptions. If you are single and gay you can adopt, but if you are partnered you cannot. My partner and I have been doing research on second parent adoptions in MI and cannot do that here either. MI will not recognize her as a second parent. If you can get the adoption through BEFORE you come here, it may be wise. Sorry....

MI adoption

My partner and I are in the process of adopting for the first time. Our placing agency is in Renton, WA. The agency that completed our homestudy has offices in Kalamazoo and Utica, Michigan. Family Adoption Consultants are gay friendly and positive.
As stated previously, second parent adoption by same sex couples, is tricky in Michigan. We know of a few couples that have been successful.
