Hi, my partner and I have been trying to get any info we can from anyone out there who has done home insemination. We've researched the web, but still feel lost! what are the chances of this working? Has anyone actually done this method and conceived? if so, would you mind shareing a little of your story?? How many times did it take, did you use fresh sperm or frozen? Thanks ahead to anyone who is willing to share such personal info:)
Home insemination
Me and my partner have tried the at home method with success. We used a syringe (without the needle) and sperm from a friend. The sperm was fresh. We tried to make sure it wasn't 10 minutes old before using it. Sounds weird but our doctor told us the older it gets, sperm begin to die. She recomended 10 minuts or less.
As for a method. We used a syring with a catheter attachment. Put it in about 4-5 inches and be careful. Before we inserted the sperm she had an orgasm, which our doctor recomended. It helps to bring the sperm to the cervix. (I think thats how the doctor put it) After injecting it she laied on the bed with a pillow underneith her hips, for atleast 20 minutes. We have tried this method a few times. It worked the 1st time after we changed donors.
Well I hope that helps you guys a little
insemination
Thanks so much! We appreciate feedback! Did your doctor give you the serynge w/catheter? I also wounder how your doctor felt about you doing it this way. Seems like many doctors dont recomend this method. Alot of the reading I've done states that 5-10% of sperm begins to die each hour. Well congradulations on your success!!!
It works!
Three years ago I was blessed with such a beautiful little baby boy that is growing like a weed! I love that kid. My best friend and I had talked about doing it when I was in a previous relationship (which, thank heavens we decided to wait cuz that didn't last!) When I was single, he asked if I wanted to still do it. We found a contract on the ACLU website and prepared all the details in advance so that the stress level would be lower when it came time to act. I did a lot of research on the web (at the time there wasn't much) but did manage to figure out how to calculate some timing issues, the syringe approach (without the needle & catathder). I read that having an orgasm prior to insemmination was best also. He went in the master bath and loaded it into the syringe for me and then I went in after, brought myself to orgasm and then inserted the syringe in as far as I could and released the sperm. I laid with my hips on a pillow and my legs toward the ceiling for 30 mins. We did this three times during the cycle. I was pregnant right away!
What my dr says...
While we have not used home insemination I can relay the info that our doctor gave us. She said that on any given cycle you have a 25% chance of getting pregnant. IUI might increase the chances by 6%. Frozen vs fresh... not really any different except that with you need to make sure the sperm have good mobility once they are thawed. Given the price of sperm it is difficult for couples to use more than one vial of sperm per cycle and our doctor said that this doesn't increase your chances by much. She said the best thing you can do is time your ovulation if you are inseminating at home.
we're on our second attempt with frozen donor sperm...
has anyone had success with this? how many cycles did it take? i know we're only on our second try - just trying to get an idea of what to expect.
