VIDEO: Our kids ask their neighbors to "Vote NO on Proposition 8"
Chiah Presents [powered by Julia and Chiah] has created a video which showcases teenagers with lesbian and gay parents. The kids show their normalcy and highlight their healthy families. The group is using the piece to help strengthen community support to oppose California's Proposition 8.
A recent poll indicates that fifty-five percent of likely voters oppose Prop 8, an increase from 51 percent who opposed it just a few months ago. The percentage of undecided voters has been steady - at 7 percent.
If a majority of voters approve - Prop 8 would define marriage as being between a man and a woman in the California constitution. It would nullify a May ruling by the California Supreme Court that overturned a 2000 gay marriage ban as unconstitutional.
The Court's ruling said: an individual’s sexual orientation, like a person’s race or gender, does not constitute a legitimate basis upon which to deny or withhold legal rights.

Thanks for showing the world that we have children too, children who will be major beneficiaries of their parents' newly recognized right to marry.
My husband and I have been together for nine years. We were finally able to marry on June 17, 2008. Our children, 7 and 3, were in the wedding and were thrilled. There were many tears of joy. Our oldest is pretty pissed that some people want to take that away from our family.

Misrepresentation
What's really sad about this commercial is that it represents only the small minority of children being raised by gay parent(s). In all the research I've seen and done, the facts are pretty incontrovertable that children raised by their biological mother and father are far more likely to be happy, well-balanced, psychologically confident adults than those either raised by a single parent or by same-sex parents. It'd kind of hard to swallow - I vote Democrat on practically everything, but I'm a strong supporter of Yes on Prop 8. The facts are there.
