"Kidnap" dad arrested

"Kidnap" dad arrested. Faces four years in prison

Eric Hyett said that he was in Israel with his son, that he would not return him to the U.S. and that there was nothing the police could do about it because, at worst, he was guilty of first-degree custodial interference, something for which he would not be extradited.

This is according to the New York Times, which also reports that the abduction was the result of a carefully conceived plan. Hyett also insisted that a provision in the Hague Convention would allow him to keep the 2-year old boy nicknamed "Jeb".

Jeb was born to a surrogate. The Times also said that both men adopted the boy, but it doesn't provide information about Jeb's biological connection to either father.

Gay dad reunited with his son. Abducted boy found in Israel

Joshua Glazer - from New York City - has been reunited with his son, Jebediah [both pictured]. Glazer's ex-husband Eric Hyett took the child last week and fled abroad. The search for Hyett and the boy was organized by a private investigation firm which tracked Hyett and the couple's son to Jerusalem, where police rescued the child.

A "removal team" made up of Israeli law enforcement and social workers escorted 23-month-old Jedidiah from a Jerusalem apartment.

"It's the most wonderful feeling in the world to have him back," Glazer, said in a call from Israel after being reunited with his son.

When Jedidiah saw him he started shouting, "Daddy! Daddy! Daddy! And he was kissing me and kissing everybody," Glazer said.

Father kidnaps adopted son and takes him to Israel

A New York City man’s ex-husband has taken their son and fled to Israel.

Joshua Glazer and Eric Hyett married four years ago in Massachusetts, but the couple broke-up about a year after adopting a baby boy. According to NYDailyNews.com, Glazer said the marriage faltered quickly after Jedidiah arrived because "Eric became extremely jealous of the time I was spending with our baby."

Last weekend - while having a court sanctioned visitation - Hyett took the boy and flew to Tel Aviv.

Police said Hyett sent an e-mail to a former attorney for Glazer in which he said he and the boy had arrived safely in Tel Aviv. Hyett also wrote that he’s not coming back. He gave his phone number and wrote to Glazer, “You won’t see your son again.”

The NYPD has asked the State Department for help in tracking down Hyett and the boy. The Department says it will work with Israeli diplomats to help settle the matter.

Can I just say this...

I am at a loss for words.

I just want to make sure I read this correctly. One parent gets jealous of the other's parent-child relationship, the marriage ends, and the jealous parent flees the country with the child. He then follows up with an EMAIL to state that his ex-husband will never see the child again. Assuming this is true... All I can say is...Grow up! Clearly, this parent has no idea what is best for his child.
