When students, staff and alumni discovered the homophobic Westboro group planned to picket Vassar because of its stance on equal rights - the local community raised $76,000 to support youth facing sexual intolerance. Proceeds will benefit the Trevor Project.
Students formed Do Something VC (@Do_Something_VC), a group to encourage tolerance, while the college created a committee to promote compassion.
Christopher Roellke, dean of the college and a professor of education, said, “The response…has been absolutely extraordinary.”
