Dealing with the families of children's friends

in

I have a question about what and how to tell the parents of my children's friends about my being gay. Is it necessary to disclose my sexuality or that I have a partner to a child's parents when that child comes for a visit to our home or goes on an outing with us? I don't want to ask my children to keep silent about it because I think that sends the wrong message but I also don't want a 'secret' to keep the other parents from letting our children see each other. Any suggestions?

I don't think you need to tell the parents unless they ask you. Please don't treat it as a secret. If you do, your kids may internalize this action and become shameful. Parents talk among themselves about "us gay/lesbian parents", so they may already know. And they may not mention it, because they just don't care.
