Providence, RI or not?

We are currently considering investing in property in Providence, RI. I have been doing some online research and have found some very positive reviews and information concerning the area and its fit with my family. I would really like to hear from those who know first hand however and can give me a realistic view of accurate pros and cons of the area! Hard to do from a 2D screen! Also would like to know some good info on safer/cleaner/better school ratings on some of the boroughs from those who know first hand! We are intending to take a trip that way but it is a long one and we have other priorities at home right now so any info other families may have would be useful! Thanks James
