Modern thinking

I wonder how many Christian parents who claim that the bible is their source for family values have beaten or killed their children for talking back to them like it tells them to. One could also offer their child as a sacrifice and find that justified in the bible. Ancient literature and superstition is a poor basis for family values. We have to teach our children how to live in this society, not the society of ancient nomadic desert tribes.
Gay parents are parents because they want to be. They are not squirting out babies every nine months without thought of how to support them. It is a well thought out decision. The time and effort that is expended ensures that these children are loved and cared for.

How insensitive

Gays live everywhere, not just in Canada. American citizens should not have to fight for the rights that everyone else has, and that they do not just because they can't legally be married - or in some cases, are taken away because they are gay (something they did not choose).

I actually find gay people who put down other gays offensive. If we can't support each other, how can we expect others to support us?

You have every right to move. But you shouldn't have to. And not every is able to pick up and move to Canada. Aside from the cost, the legal aspect is daunting.

Fortunately, I do believe change is coming to all the U.S. I hope it is soon enough that these kids and others like them don't suffer because of discriminatory laws.

Social Security Administration ignores Florida gay father.

Were I a juror charged to decide if gay discrimination is at the root of the delay, I would not have enough information to reach a conclusion. A two year wait is a long time, but it does not prove discrimination. Many disability claimants wait much longer just to get a hearing.

My advice to the legal counsel is to forget writing to the Congressperson (if you have done so); he or she is no help. Contact the Regional Office in Atlanta. Obtain the number for the Area Director that oversees the SS Office in question. The AD holds the purse for merit increases for District Managers in the local office; thus, ADs are amazingly effective at cutting red tape.

I am not gay, by the way. People should receive good service whoever they are, and two years without a response is a run-around whatever the reason.

Parents to be

My partner, of 12 yrs, and I are in the process of adoption and stories likes these have begun to attract my attention when I scan my daily blogs. Thank you for posting this. I look forward to following this story and seeing what the outcome will be.

Thanks. KevinErskine@Hotmail.com

Come on People!

First of all,I believe that all people have the right to choose who they fall in love with. I am a gay man living in Utah and it is hard to live around such closed minded people. As is says above 2,600 kids who are sitting in a foster home with no parents and nobody to care for them. Why would it even matter if 2 homosexuals wanted to adopt them. We are just as capable of being loving parents as heterosexuals. It is amazing to me how you people (youngsplace) have no clue what the world is really like. When these kids turn 18 they are kicked out of foster care and expected to start there life. A good portion of them get into drugs, have low self esteem, and have never felt what a loving family is like. Shame on you! This country needs to change. What is your fear? That the whole world will turn Homosexual? I think it is you that needs to pray for yourself for thinking in such a closed minded way.

Sorry, but this is stupidity on the part of ALL GAY PEOPLE WHO STILL LIVE IN FLORIDA!! Much less, this country. Why in the world would you adopt (and pay taxes. and contribute to society) in a state that gives NO RIGHTS to gay people. Then turn around and bitch when they pass a law like this, like it was a shock. I get it, the weather is nice. But if you trade some comfort for some peace of mind, then you deserve what you get. My bf and I are in Michigan, planning to move to London, Ontario. And I'll be outside shoveling snow off my car, cursing the very existence of winter, BUT I'll be legally married with legally adopted kids.

Gay Adoption

My partner and I have been together 10 years, she has not had the chance to experence the wonderful feeling of motherhood, but I have I have raised a daughter and she is 33 a college graduate, married and very happy.
I would love to have the chance to give a child a chance for a loving and careing home. WE can make a difference in a childs life and a chance to make it in this world as a well rounded adult.

Why would gay or lesbian couples not be allowed to raise children, thier just as intelligent and loving as a straight couple. Its people like you who hold the world back, who think that what thier parents taught them and what they've "been raised to believe" is automatically true. Also by the way, not all peoples follow the teachings of the bible. Another thing is the science behind it, Many gays are born the way they are, with a different hormone balance then the average person. So to talk about "converting" others to thier belief is just stupid.

They DID have the "paperwork"!

Unfortunately, this brief snippet does not go into ALL of the FULL details of this story. This couple did have legal paperwork made up that was "supposed" to allow them access to each other under a medical emergency. Granted that they had to have them faxed to them by a friend back in their home state, but even after they were faxed. The hospital STILL REFUSED to give her partner and children access to her dying partner and their mother!

Here's a quick link to a more "complete" version:
http://www.familypride.org/blog/2007/07/triumph-over-tragedy-the-langbeh...

Yes, it is still important to "have all your papers with you" when you travel. Even if you are just travelling to your local grocery store, I suppose.

Yet, heterosexual, married couples DON'T have to carry THEIR "paperwork" whenever they go to the store or across the country!

Blatant sexual orientation DISCRIMINATION!!!

Make sure to have health care proxies and durable power of attorney's with you any time you travel. Whenever my wife and I leave Massachusetts we make sure to bring them. I don't think they could argue with that. Some day we won't need them but till then they are essential.

This is reduculous!! States

This is reduculous!! States like Utah, Flordia and Mississippi would rather keep children in foster care than give them the families that they so desire. Yet, they talk about how many kids there are in foster care and how they need a family. If more states would allow gay couples to adopt we could reduce the number of children wanting families by 50 - 60%. I applaud these guys for wanting and fighting for the right to care for these children
