I really dread that. But "experts" say it's going to happen. Kids have to go through the "coming out process" too. A book called "Families Like Mine" - by Abigail Garner - can help. She was raised by two gay dads and she writes about what it's like to come out to kids at school.

Mine just started preschool (she's 3) but I know she's going to start making the connections about Dads & Dads and Moms & Dads.

I hope she takes it well - but kids are resilient - so they'll be fine. Time will tell.

Jeff, just happened up on this site. I do have a question about gay parenting.

My partner and I have a son in kindergarten. We adopted him when he was 4 months old. Recently he came home stating he wanted a Mom, not two Dads. When questioned more about the issue he shut down the conversation.

We just visited his classroom for parent teacher progress visit and when he saw his Dads there he kept his distance from us and did not speak. He is usually a very happy kid. His facial expressions appeared to be embarrassed.

What is your advice about helping him process that his family has two Dads?

We have repeatedly reinforced that all families are different with some having mom and dad, others 2 moms/2dads, etc.
