Update to "Not the first week!"

Well, we obtained our marriage license on June 18th, sent out ceremony invites to family and very close friends. Since the wedding date is so close, we have decided to have a Fall reception, allowing more time to organize and providing some far-away guests time to book travel.

If you read my blog, "My life as a SAHD," you know that I never thought this day would come. Some fantasies do come true!

No Immediate Plans

My partner & I have been together for 11 years and don't have any immediate plans to marry. We live in California, but really don't need to have the paper to show we are committed. She feels if our marriage had the federal benefits, then we might, but it doesn't so we're not. We did exchange rings on the beach last year. Just me, her and our son.

Mommysrus917-you'll love California. Congrats on your upcoming wedding.

My partner and I will celebrate nine years together on July 18th, the day we have decided to get married. We were hoping to actually get married on our 10th, but who knows what will happen with the Nov 2008 ballot initiative.

The best day ever

Being in the UK we have had the legal right since Dec 2005. We got married in Oct 2007 and it was the best day. While having the legal status is great, it was fantastic to share it wil all our family and friends. My new step children made me extremely proud as well.
Before when it was not an option to get married I couldn't have thought of anything worse and was not really bothered but that was just my way of protecting my feelings.
We had a very traditional wedding (no drag queens as bridesmaids or a pink stretch limo to arrive in (not that I am knocking it if that is your thing)). It was tasteful and meaningful. One rather straight heterosexual guest who had had doubts was really taken aback about what all the fuss had been about. He thought it was wonderful and that really means alot as the more gay people who do this the more it will become the norm (or challenge what the norm is).
In short for me and my husband, it was fantastic so come on California.

When I'm ready!

When I'm ready, I will! The greatest thing though is that the dam is beginning to burst!

well in response to some of

well in response to some of your questions. my partner and i moved to ga last year from NY...big change. we had some family here and thats what brought on our move HERE. however now that we are living here it is not gay friendly. meaning, we have NO rights. i cant legally adopt my son nor can i marry my partner and secure our future together. we have been engaged for over a year and never set an official date due to the fact of how or where can we really take that leap. and now that california has made it legal, not only have we set a date for our wedding, june 4th 2009 but we are also planning to relocate and live in the state. where we will have rights as a couple and rights as parents. i think it is an amazing thing that they have took the first step, hopefully many other states will be soon to follow.
Getting Married?

Ok, so as of June 16th gay couples can legally wed in the state of California. I am curious about the response/reaction to this by GLBT families. Are you as parents planning to wed immediately to garner all the equal rights for your family? Are you planning a ceremony or celebration? Are you interested, but not really moving forward? Are you not interested at all?

Let me know your thoughts on the subject. Are you looking to get that legal certificate ASAP?
