The parents introduced the children to services at Bek Tikvah - a gay and lesbian congregation in the area - soon after they entered the States.

Throughout the years, the family became very active in their church. The kids celebrated their bat mitzvah at Rodef Shalomthe - which has become their "spiritual home"; and it was the first time that a child of a lesbian couple became a bat mitzvah at that congregation.

“The service was absolutely packed,” McQuiston says. “The next day I had people coming up to me, telling me they had never felt such love at a service. It was an amazing experience.”
