ClevelandJewishNews.com offers an informative and moving profile of Jewish lesbians and gays who are also parents.
The news source introduces its readers to several Jewish families, including two Pittsburgh mothers - who have woven their spiritual beliefs and sexual orientation into a welcoming and safe environment for their children. They happen to be lesbian and Jewish. Terry Starrett and Patricia McQuiston adopted two children - from Russia. The parents introduced the children to services at Bek Tikvah - a gay and lesbian congregation in the area - soon after they entered the States.
Throughout the years, the family became very active in their church. The kids celebrated their bat mitzvah at Rodef Shalomthe - which has become their "spiritual home"; and it was the first time that a child of a lesbian couple became a bat mitzvah at that congregation.
“The service was absolutely packed,” McQuiston says. “The next day I had people coming up to me, telling me they had never felt such love at a service. It was an amazing experience.”
