Here comes our vacation!

Well only a few days until we board our airplane at 1 in the morning to take a red eye flight to MN to visit with my parter's family over the 4th of July. I am really excited for a vacation, but also always somewhat trepidacious (spelling??). Her family does not accept our relationship and has a very awkward feeling around me. They love the kids and they are glad we visit, but I am just an outsider looking in who never really fits in. I always go on these trips with the perspective that it's for my partner, for our kids, for the family, etc...and I enjoy seeing the midwest.

Details magazine: More gay men are becoming parents, and among them gestational surrogacy is particularly popular

Details magazine's "The Gay Baby Boom" story features John Weltman and several Circle parents

Details magazine published an in-depth story in their May 2008 issue about the increasing numbers of gay men who are becoming fathers. The article cites observations of academics, doctors, lawyers, and gay advocacy groups who say that "there appears to be a boom in homosexual men having babies." Edward Lewine, the article's author, based much of the article on interviews with John Weltman, Circle Surrogacy's president, along with several former Circle clients.

The State of Things

In recent news we have seen the murders of two different members of the LGBT community. For those of you unfamiliar with the acronym, LGBT stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender. It is heart rending to read about these slain youths; people should not have to face violence and hatred for simple expression of their gender and sexuality. People have become complacent about gay rights and have pushed harder to dehumanize us as of late.

I sware, i keep reading and watching so much about the campaigning for this upcoming election. but it is just so frustrating because it seems like we are so close to having a president that actually supports gay marriage or civil unions however they word it. most important they support our equal rights as couples. i want to be able to have these benefits so badly but we still face an enormous amount of people who are still against it. i originally am from ny and even there it was tough living a gay lifestyle and now i am living in ga the old south and it just seems impossible!

Politics, Elections, and The Children

As the proud daughter of a feminist lesbian, I've had my share of marches and rally's. I've also had my political disagreements with my Mom and her partner. I do respect their opinions and appreciate the pride it instilled me as a girl growing up.

So, there's this old pervert in the swamps of Lake Okeechobee, Florida who thinks that Gay and Straight Alliances - in high schools - are hook-up spots for sex. Like "sex clubs".

Attorney for a local school district, David Gibbs, says that Florida law requires schools to teach abstinence, "while teaching the benefits of monogamous heterosexual marriage."

He's implying that sex - not abstinence - occurs at the GSA meetings!

Re-elect Gavin Newsom for Mayor

Hillary Clinton visited San Francisco this week to receive the endorsement of it's mayor, Gavin Newson.

Newsom used a separate ocassion - later that day - to discuss his pioneering efforts in the history of gay marriage.

The Mayor was honored by the National Lesbian and Gay Law Association of the American BAR Association.

The San Francisco Sentinel published portions of his speech he gave that evening.
