Book with two moms returns to elementary school library

The ACLU of Utah defended the book “In Our Mothers’ House” by Patricia Polacco, after it was removed from the Davis School District’s library shelves.

A group of parents petitioned the district to review the book’s gay content, and parental permission was then required for a student to check out the book.

Davis School District Assistant Superintendent Pamela Park states said the decision to remove the book was made without her final review, contrary to district policy. She has instructed librarians to return the book to library shelves and in place of requiring parent permission to access the book, parents who object to the book may contact librarians and place a restriction on their children.
