Equality Ohio delivers 80,000 signatures to Union-Scioto School District after anti-gay assault caught on tape

Representatives of Equality Ohio delivered more than 80,000 signatures calling upon the Union-Scioto School District to include sexual orientation and gender identity in their anti-harassment policy. Ohio resident Bret Thompson launched the Change.org petition after watching the assault of a 15-year-old gay student in a cell phone video (see below) that went viral immediately following the attack. The Union-Scioto School District has yet to change its anti-harassment policy to include sexual orientation and gender identity. The ACLU announced it was considering a wide range of legal actions to protect the victimized student and other students from future instances of bullying. The ACLU also sent a letter to the school district inviting them to discuss solutions before formal legal action is filed.
