Turmoil in Bachmann’s district: Community push back forces Minnesota anti-gay group to shut down website

A group of Anoka-Hennepin School District parents opposed to LGBT safety programs in district schools, shut down its website after its existence was unveiled by the Minnesota Independent – as the community deals with suicides of 3 gay teens. The group advocates for reparative therapy for gays and supports efforts by Exodus International to bring the Day of Truth to schools in the district. The Day of Truth teaches Christian students to be outspoken about homosexuality as a sin. This is in Rep. Michele Bachmann’s district.

Meanwhile, a sixth teen has filed a lawsuit against Anoka-Hennepin School District alleging that school staff members did not do enough to prevent or cease the bullying she endured because she is gay. In the lawsuit, an unnamed lesbian student alleges that she was called slurs (such as “faggot” and “dyke”) and punched in the stomach after she began attending Jackson Middle School in September 2010. The student says she reported the harassment to teachers and administrators, but they did nothing to protect her.
