Michael Strahan for NY Marriage Equality

Former NY Giants star Michael Strahan is the latest celebrity – and second big-name Big Apple athlete – to lend his support to the New Yorkers for Marriage Equality campaign. Strahan, who retired from the Giants after helping lead his team to victory over the previously unbeaten Patriots in Super Bowl XLII, said “it’s unfair to keep committed couples from getting married” in a video he filmed with his fiancee, Nicole. “Michael Strahan is part of an ever-growing list of professional athletes speaking out for marriage equality,” said Brian Ellner, the Human Rights Campaign’s senior New York strategist. “There are a lot of tough New Yorkers, but none tougher than Michael Strahan, one of the most feared and accomplished defensive ends in history. He’s our Super Bowl champion for New Yorkers for Marriage.”

Strahan joins Rangers winger Sean Avery in endorsing same-sex marriage. The NHL tough guy’s video was released in May.
