We’re trying to learn more about fertility drugs (positive and negative effects). What types do you recommend? Ask Dr. Doyle

QUESTION: We’re trying to learn more about fertility drugs (positive and negative effects). What types do you recommend? In particular, which don’t involve needles!

DR. DOYLE: There are so many fertility drugs. The one that is right for you depends on numerous things, including your medical condition, your age, your hormone replacement therapy, and your personal preferences, including your comfort level with side effects and risks like twins. The most common oral medication is Clomid. Side effects include mood swings and hot flashes and the chances of success are not that high, but twins happen < 10% of the time. The injections work much better but twins can happen 30-35% of the time in women under 35. Learn more about the drugs.
