Openly gay singer-songwriter Rufus Wainwright becomes a dad

Proudly gay Rufus Wainwright (left) has announced the birth of his daughter this weekend via his official website. Leonard Cohen’s daughter Lorca Cohen is the birth mother, while Wainwright’s partner of five years Jorn Weisbrodt (right) – a German arts administrator – will also act as the child’s father. Viva Katherine Wainwright Cohen was born on February 2 in LA to proud parents Lorca Cohen, Rufus Wainwright and Deputy Dad Jorn Weisbrodt. Rufus Wainwright was born in Rhinebeck, NY, to folk singers Kate McGarrigle and Loudon Wainwright III. He came out while a teenager. In 1999, he told Rolling Stone that his father recognized his homosexuality early on.
