Forty states have a ban on recognizing same-sex marriages, according to the AG’s office. King said New Mexico’s law is vague.
Five states and Washington D.C. offer marriage equality.
“That is a bold move on his part, and a major step forward for the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community,” said Jesse Lopez with Albuquerque Pride. “This kind of came as a shock and surprise to me, but of course it’s definitely a move in the right direction.”
