Belmont University in Nashville, Tenn., is facing protests over the loss of its women’s soccer coach, who was let go after announcing she’s expecting a child with her same-sex partner.
Students held a three-hour protest pushing for a change allowing for freedom of sexual orientation. The crowd included some of Lisa Howe’s former players.
Mike Curb, a music industry executive and major donor to the private Christian school, said he wants Belmont officials to rehire Howe and – “act like Christians.”
But in a statement, Howe says, “Policies and attitudes would have to change for me to come back to Belmont and feel safe and welcome.”
