“The attorney general’s duty is to protect the constitution and the people of Florida,” Dan Gelber – candidate for Attorney General said. “It’s not to protect bad laws.” He says the AG shouldn’t defend law that violates the constitution, and he would refuse to defend the current ban against gays who want to adopt. Gelber – a state senator from Miami – said he believes that an attorney general is required to defend state laws and constitutional amendments even when he or she personally disagrees with them. He also didn’t think the state had much of a case, and it wasted time and money.
