Supporting gay and lesbian youth in Oklahoma

New York Times Magazine reports on Openarms Youth Project – which supports the needs of GLBTQ youth [ages 14-21] in Tulsa and its surrounding areas – in Oklahoma.

According to its website, Openarms is a ‘one stop resource center’ – founded in 2002 by Tim Gillean and his longtime partner Ken Draper. The service offers crisis intervention, weekly social events, counseling, movie nights, GSA assistance, referrals to community services, and discussion groups focusing on gay history and coming out. The couple leads discussion groups every Thursday – about self-esteem, healthy relationships and H.I.V./AIDS.
