VIDEO: Actress Wanda Sykes comes out of the closet at L.A. protest
Over the weekend, Wanda Sykes [from CBS’s New Adventures of Old Christine] came out of the closet as a gay, married woman.
This is the first time Sykes has publicly discussed her sexual orientation.
In this video, you’ll see Wanda speaking from a very private place, that she’s passionate about – the family she’s created with her partner. Sykes mentioned that she got married and her wife was at the rally with her.
She talked about gay marriage bans and Arkansas’ ban on gay adoption. Wanda said that she normally doesn’t discuss her sexual orientation but felt that marriage equality is an important reason to officially come out.

Congratulations on your marriage 🙂 My wife and I have been together 9 years in Jan 09 and are expecting twins within the next month. We greatly appreciate you standing up and being counted! As a Black woman, too many of us are silent- allowing parts of the Black community to pretend we do not exist. I agree with you that we should not have to protest for basic rights, it is infuriating. While we do need to “fight the hell back,” as Harvey Milk said; it is important to thank the ones with the big microphones. So thank you, sending you and yours love and support.
