The Gaybe Boom continues. HuffPo’s Peggy Drexler reminds us lesbians and gays are gaining acceptance in adoption law.

Huffington Post’s Peggy Drexler underscores the good news related to state governments which support lesbian and gay parenting. Eleven states and DC explicitly state that sexual orientation cannot be the basis for adoption denial. Ohio was the only state – in 2006 – to introduce a ban. The proposed ban failed when backers couldn’t generate enough support.

Drexler writes: “It was an admission, political observers say, that orientation-based divisiveness just isn’t what it used to be.”

Peggy goes on to say: “So the good news – especially for the hundreds of thousands of kids in foster care – is that as wedge issues go, gay adoption does not have the same resonance as gay marriage. The big question, of course, is about demand. How many of those high-income, free-to-travel gays and lesbians really want to take on the expense and response of a family? Actually, more than ever.”

Read Peggy’s book, called Raising Boys Without Men: How Maverick Moms Are Creating the Next Generation of Exceptional Men. The book earned wide praise for showing that effective families come in many forms, including mothers single by choice and lesbian parents.
