Man not entitled to his deceased partner’s home

A Vancouver man has been denied the estate of his deceased long-time partner.

Reza Chowdhury shared a home with Peter Argenti during their 14-year relationship. Argenti died at the age of 66, after complications from a stroke and cancer.

Chowdhury says he lived with Mr. Argenti in the home and has a claim to it as a common-law spouse. But a B.C. Supreme Court Justice has ruled Chowdhury has no claim to the East Vancouver home because there’s no indication of a connection between Chowdhury and the house.

Mr. Argenti, who had three daughters from a 1967 marriage, transferred the title of the home to his youngest child in September, 2003, just weeks before he died.
