Hospital Responds

Thank you for taking the time to send us your comments.

Jackson Memorial Hospital strives to treat all patients and their families with respect and dignity. As the only safety-net hospital in Miami-Dade County, we provide the same, high-level of care to all patients who come through our doors, regardless of their ability to pay, ethnicity, sexual orientation, etc.

Ms. Pond was admitted through the Ryder Trauma Center, and because of the nature of acute care within a trauma center, it is routine that all visitors are asked to wait until all emergency interventions are delivered before being allowed to visit the patient. Jackson Memorial has a liberal visitation policy as we understand the importance that family and friends play in the recovery process.

It is unfortunate that The Olympian, the newspaper that originally reported this story, did not seek comment from Jackson Memorial as we would have informed them of the same policies as stated above.

Again, thank you for your e-mail and have a pleasant afternoon.

Warm regards,
Jackson Health System
